About Brownie Encampment/Daisy Day

May 4-5, 2024 at Green Oak Ranch

Encampment is a large campout for a Service Unit.  All Brownie troops in Scripps Ranch are invited to attend our Brownie Encampment.  For 2024, Daisies are invited as daytrippersThe Encampment committee sets a theme and plans activities around the theme.  Usually a badge is earned.  The girls stay with their troop leaders and go to various activities around the camp.  Some Brownies, a.k.a. “daytrippers”, come just on Saturday day; most Brownies stay overnight.  Brownie Encampment has been held at Green Oak Ranch in Vista for the past several years.

Paperwork for troops

What is required of attending troops?

  • One adult representative from each troop must attend encampment planning meetings.

  • Each troop will be assigned a kaper, or job, to do before or during the encampment.  The kaper might involve paperwork, planning an activity, shopping, and/or helping to run a station for a few hours during the weekend.

  • Troops take care of their own paperwork.

  • Each troop must have one first aid-certified adult in attendance ***

  • Overnight troops must have one adult in attendance who has taken council’s “Basic Overnights” online training ***

  • Troops should follow the SafetyWise requirements for the minimum number of accompanying adults.

  • All attending adults must be registered Adult Girl Scouts and be in compliance with all background check requirements, including Mandated Reporter Training, LiveScan fingerprinting, and criminal background check.

  • If a troop doesn’t already have overnight experience as a troop, they should have a sleepover near home beforehand.  It really helps to find out if your girls are ready to spend the night at encampment.  The sleepover can be indoors or outdoors.

  • Troops should make and bring SWAPS (what is it?) - plan for about 12 SWAPs per girl.

  • Each troop should prepare a song or skit for Saturday evening (not required, but highly encouraged).  For ideas, search the internet for scout skits.

*** Things to get done sooner rather than later:

  • Have one troop adult camper get first aid-certified

    • certification is good for 2 years

    • our service unit will offer a few classes (check Events) or search here for classes set up by council

  • Have one troop adult camper take “Basic Overnights" online training course

    • certification is good indefinitely
